SACH Holds Mobile Clinic in Kawai

March 29, 2011

The volunteer group from San Antonio Community Hospital (SACH) arrived early in March. The SACH group was full of energy and eager to hold mobile bush clinics and help with the immunization program. The morning after they arrived, they started in full swing by holding a mobile clinic in Kawai. The group divided themselves into teams and had "booths" of a sort where patients could get screenings for high blood pressure and diabetes and be evaluated by a practitioner and tested for malaria if deemed necessary.

The SACH group held multiple mobile bush clinics over two weeks, seeing approximately 1,000 patients. When the group was not out holding mobile clinics, they assisted in the AMS clinic giving immunizations, visited the local schools to see any sick children, as well as de-worming them all, and held a program for the 5th-8th grade girls at the Oloosinon School on how to use the reusable pads generously donated by Days for Girls. A few in the group decided to do something a little different - through their hard work, the walls for a women's group grinding mill where put up at Kawai.
