Upcoming projects:
~ December 18 - January 4: Rick Luce and company, building a classroom at Saparingo Primary
~ January 27 - February 11: AMS' first Open Volunteer Camp! If you're interested in tailor-making your own volunteer trek to include working at the clinic, a school, or anything else, this camp is available! In addition to volunteerism, this camp has an extended safari option: 2 days in Masai Mara, 1 day in at Lake Nakuru, 1 in Nairobi, 1 in Amboseli, and 3 at the coast, guided by Andrew Aho. Those who do not wish to take part in the traveling safari option can volunteer at camp the entire time. (See more info on Open Volunteer Camps below.)
~ March 1 - 14 (roughly): Dustin Aho and group from Loma Linda University, beginning construction of the new facilities at Engos Clinic
~ March 15 - 30 (roughly): Andrew Rom and company, continuing construction work
~ April 5 - 15: our second Open Volunteer Camp! Join us for a volunteer experience designed to your own specifications.
~ April 26 - May 5: Terry Clum and two dozen medical professionals for a medical volunteerism camp
December through March is our busy time for development work. We have several construction projects pending: two new classrooms at Saparingo Primary School, another classroom at Oloosinon Primary School, and a combined building/remodeling project at Engos Clinic to provide a new 8-bed ward and improved staff housing, with hopes of adding solar power and toilet facilities before long.
In addition, we are planning several two-week camps that will be tailored for individuals, families, and smaller groups. Instead of focussing on one large project such as the construction of a classroom, these camps will be more flexible, interaction-based times, facilitating volunteer participation in general activities such as teaching, helping in the clinic, running athletic activities at the schools, giving out supplies at a Maasai boma, assisting with ongoing construction, and more, with a focus on community interaction opportunities. These camps will be offered in roughly two-week segments and will allow great flexibility for volunteers to choose their areas of involvement based on their own skills and interests. Currently these are tentatively scheduled for February and April. If you're interested, send us an email and tell us what it is you'd like to do.
We're looking forward to a great development season!!!!
